Assyrian Way of Life
Most of the Assyrians worked for the Assyrian rulers or for other powerful people. Farmers lived on the estates in small villages and took good care of the land. To help control flooding the Assyrians dug irrigation canals that channeled water to the farmland. The Assyrians lived in houses that had walls made out of interwined branches and mud. Their houses also had thatched roofs. Farmers produced milk and raised livestock. For the Assyrians, the most important important crop was barley.
