The Early History of Assyria
One of the earliest sites in Assyria is at the center of the Hassuna. Little is positively known about the early history of the kingdom of Assyria. Some of the Judaeo- Christian traditions, the city of Ashur was founded by Ashur the son of Shem. He was deified by later generations as the city's patron god. The upper Tigris River valley seems to be ruled by Sumer, Akkad, and northern Babylonia. The part of Sargon the Great`s empire was destroyed in the Gutian period. Then it was rebuilt and it ended up being governed as part of the Empire of the Third Dynasty of Ur.
